COLLEGE MATH DEPARTMENT TUTORS
All Tutors
work under general supervision. Tutors are expected to perform their required
tasks, which involve significant skill. Only highly qualified Math Tutors are
needed because often, tutors are crucial for students academic success.
Tutors are expected to:
- Tutor "drop-in's" or small groups (2-3) of
people.
- Tutor students in math as well as from other various
academic disciplines.
- Explain class material to students utilizing a
variety of learning modalities.
- Develop tutor-teaching aids to assist students with
subject understanding.
- Provide study techniques and time management skills
to students.

REQUIREMENTS
A Tutor's
pay is based upon education and experience.
MINIMUM
REQUIREMENTS FOR TUTOR I LEVEL
- Complete Math 31 with an "A" or
"B"
- Demonstrate a proficiency in Reading, English, and/or
Math, as per Sierra College requirements for an AA/AS degree (if
proficiency is measured by course, then the student must have achieved a
"B" or better in that class).
- Note: Completion of SD21 is not required to tutor in
the ILP Math Lab (V-217) or the Math Center (V-329).
PAY RATES
- TUTOR I: $11.00-11.50/hr (Step 1-2)
- TUTOR II: $12.00-12.50/hr (Step 3-4) Math Center tutors start at Tutor II
- TUTOR III: $13.00 (Step 5) Math Center tutors who have
completed Math 32 and 33 qualify for Tutor III
