Math Software
Because Sierra College has a site license for certain software, the Math Department is able to offer the math programs below to assist you both at school and at home. You can take advantage of these programs by downloading them onto your home computer or using them in the Math Center.
Program Description Notes License Information
MathType MathType is an enhanced, professional version of the equation editor in Microsoft Office. MathType includes substantial new capabilities for producing equations in Microsoft Office documents, including better support in web pages and in Power Point presentations (IBM PC campatible). Please see your instructor for information on downloading this program. The licensed version does not work with Office XP. Sierra College's Site License permits Sierra College students and employees to use MathType on district computers and at home. Others should see the MathType web site for information on purchasing a license to use MathType.
X(plore) X(plore) is a powerful mathematical tools program that can evaluate formulas including derivatives and integrals, graph functions in two and three variables, perform all common matrix operations, and use subroutines written in a powerful mathematical language. The download package includes demonstration files with sample problems (IBM PC campatible).  

Sierra College's Site License permits Sierra College students and employees to use X(plore) on district computers and at home. Others should see the X(plore) web site for licensing information.
DPGraph DPGraph is an extraordinary 2D and 3D graphing program. It is FAST and can produce color images that can be viewed over the Internet and can be animated and rotated. The program includes a number of sample graphs that are both informative and useful as templates. The 'Gallery' page on this web site has a large collection of intricate graphs that have been produced by the program, as well as their underlying formulas and graphing commands (IBM PC campatible).   Sierra College's Site License permits Sierra College students and employees to use DPGraph on district computers and at home. Others should see the DPGraph web site for information on purchasing a license to use DPGraph.
LiveMath LiveMath Maker is an exceptional tool to aid in the understanding of math. MathEQ is a Math expression editor. Both are available to Sierra College students as downloads at the substantially discounted price of $35 each ($60 for the combination). CD-ROM versions will incur an additional charge of $10 for shipping and handling. Please see your instructor for information on downloading this program.  
Graph Paper Graph Paper is a Free program that lets you make many kinds of graph paper including x-y plain, polar coordinate, and musical paper (IBM PC campatible). By Philippe Marquis, Freeware 376Kb Graph Paper Printer is a shareware product. You are granted a 7-day evaluation period. You may try the program to check if the available variants of papers fill your needs. If you decide to use the program, you must buy a license.
SETI Screen Saver The Math Department uses the SETI@home screen saver which is a scientific experiment that uses Internet-connected computers in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) (IBM PC and Mac campatible).
