Education and Experience: I attended California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, earning a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Mathematics in 2001; a Master's of Science in Mathematics in 2003; and continued work in the field of education at Cal Poly on a secondary teaching credential during 2004. I continue to take courses in education and mathematics through Sac State and other educational institutions. I enjoy learning and expanding my teaching techniques. I have always enjoyed Mathematics and find teaching very rewarding. I in my eighth year teaching at Sierra College. My teaching experience also includes three years of teaching at Cal Poly during both my Master's Program and the credential program. My student teaching includes summer school at Colfax High School and two different quarters at both San Luis Obispo and Arroyo Grande High Schools. In the over ten years I have been teaching at the college level, I have taught a wide variety of courses such as Elementary Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus I, II, III, Business Calculus, and the Nature of Modern Mathematics. I also consult where I teach Technical Mathematics classes at NEC/Renesas in Roseville and most recently I have been working on grants that integrate math curriculum into the CTE courses, such as welding. Family and Background: Teaching runs in my blood, as both my parents were teachers. My father, Steve Hunter, taught Electronics at Sierra College for 30 years I was excited to join him on the faculty at Sierra in 2004 and was able to teach as his colleague for two years before he retired. I still get students who know or had my dad as a teacher. My mother, Cathie Hunter, taught Art and Computer Studies at Colfax High School for 24 years. I lost my mother in 2008 after a three battle with colon cancer. I grew up in Colfax and attended Colfax High School. I enjoy having students for Colfax in my classes and I return each year to Colfax High to give out a scholarship in my mom's name. Below is one of the last photos taken of us as a family immediately after I finished an Ironman race in Idaho in 2008. I was blessed with very supportive parents!
I met my husband, Dewey Lucero, while we were both undergraduate students at Cal Poly. He grew up in Corning, just north of Chico, and we were married in Chico in 2003. Dewey has a mechanical engineering degree from Cal Poly and worked for a couple of years in the Sacramento area as an engineer. He then decided to open his own business producing and selling olive oil. Now he is running our olive oil company, Lucero Olive Oil (www.lucerooliveoil.com), a full time job that finds him running all around the state and beyond making and selling olive oil. His family lives in Corning where most of the olives for the olive oil are grown. In the summer we spend many weekends enjoying family company and the warm summer weather on their houseboat on Shasta Lake. We also spend time camping, backpacking and hiking the Sierras closer to home. In the winter we enjoy my winter hobbies of cross country and downhill skiing in the mountains around Tahoe. Lucero Olive Oil: My husband Dewey Lucero started our olive oil company, called Lucero Olive Oil a little over 6 years ago when he was laid off from an engineering job in the Sacramento region. Currently the company employs 18 full time employees, has one of the largest olive oil mills in California and has a new retail space and tasting room in Corning, about 30 miles north of Chico. Locally our oil can be found at all Nugget Markets and Whole Foods Markets (on the shelves and in the bulk section in Roseville). You can also purchase the oil at our website and see more about our story: Hobbies and Interests: I enjoy all outdoor activities spending my summers and weekends camping, backpacking, biking, rafting, skiing, wakeboarding, and boating. I raced on downhill ski teams throughout high school and into college, and continue to enjoy recreational cross-country and downhill skiing in the winter. It is nice to live close to the mountains and I thoroughly enjoy cross-country skiing in the winter and hiking and backpacking with my family over the summer. Dewey and I both compete in and train for triathlons (a sport involving three parts: swimming, biking, and running). The two of us raced for the Cal Poly Triathlon team for four years, racing all over California and at national events. We continue to enjoy the lifestyle and spend many hours a week in the pool, on our bikes, or running trails. We spend our weekends riding around the country, often logging upwards of 60-70 miles. Some Triathlon Events we regularly compete in are: Black Butte Triathlon, Cal Poly's March Warm Up, Donner Lake, and Vineman. I have competed in three Ironman Triathlons, which entails a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run. Most recently I have become interested in ultra marathons and have been logging lots of miles out on the running trails by Folsom lake. |
